Often, their only familiarity with turkeys is that cultural symbol of a carcass on the holiday table with the family gathered around. Friends, when we are rethinking our cultural traditions because they no longer reflect our good values, we must also reimagine the associated symbols. Along the path to animal liberation, we must liberate the turkey from this distorted holiday symbol. Turkeys are magic, they deserve the highest of dignity. We grow a lot of plant-friends for the sanctuary-friends who live here, so that every day is a special-meal day. Before starting Piebird 11 years ago, Sherry’s background was in healing with plants — and many of the gardens that Yan first dug here are now buffets for the friends. If your child has a huge interest in dinosaurs and you had the opportunity to introduce them to a living, loving one, would you: A) kill, cook and serve the dinosaur to your family without telling them B) celebrate this wonderful creature and learn more about it New research suggests that turkeys and chickens have experienced fewer genomic changes than other birds as they evolved from their dinosaur ancestor. Yes, turkeys and chickens are the most dinosaur-like. Last year, a U of Alberta researcher found that some feathered dinosaurs used tail plumage to attract mates, just like turkeys do.
